There several different fishing techniques which can be used to catch steelhead trout. While drift fishing remains a popular tactic, spoon and spinner fishing are also excellent techniques for catching steelhead.

I own the majority of the books and DVD's below and have found them to be excellent resources in my fishing library. Although devoted to steelhead fishing, many of these books are excellent resources for catching other species of trout as well.

Best Streams For Great Lakes Steelhead: A Complete Guide to the Fish, the Tactics, and the Places to Catch Them

The Great Lakes is one of the most popular destinations for steelhead anglers. The author of this book also co-wrote Modern Streamers for Trophy Trout and Trout Streams of Michigan. He's also a fly fishing guide and part owner of a fly shop in Michigan.

Despite using the word, "advanced" in the title of this book, beginners steelheaders will also find the information useful. It covers all aspects of fly selection and various fly fishing techniques proven to catch steelhead trout. This book also does a good job of covering the use of spey rods (equipment often associated with European anglers).

Passion for Steelhead (Masters on Fly Series)

This book is geared toward the western angler but is another valuable resource for all steelhead anglers. It was written by a steelhead guide and covers various topics includigs tackle, fly selection for various river conditions, spey casting, and more.

Spey Fishing for Steelhead (DVD)

Books are great, but DVD's offer a unique look at fishing! This DVD is geared more towards the beginner and intermediate angler. This DVD explains how to determine where you need to cast your fly, how it should swing, and what depth it needs to be in order to reach holding fish. The creator of this video is a fly fishing guide on Oregon's Deschutes River.

Float Fishing for Steelhead (DVD)

In addition to spoons and spinners, the use of floats are another popular fishing technique used to catch all trout (including steelhead). While there are good books (mentioned here) avaliable on this technique, this DVD offers a visual look at float fishing. Several experts share their secrets for successful float fishing.
