Here's the generally accepted formula for calculating fish weight. You might like to write it down and carry the information with you in your tackle box. That way you can calculate the approximate weight of your fish while your out fishing. This can be very helpful when you're in a fishing tournament and need to decide if you should keep your fish.

(length) * (girth in front of dorsal fin) * (girth behind dorsal fin) * 800 = weight of fish in pounds

 

Rather than take both girth measurements, some anglers (and other calculators) will measure the girth at the widest part of the body and use it twice in the forumla above.

Keep in mind this only an ESTIMATE and should not be considered 100% accurate.
