Kids Take Home Trophy Trout

It's exciting when anybody catches a trophy trout - but it's even more exciting when it's a couple of kids!

Selected counties in Southeast Pennsylvania got to start trout fishing season a bit early this year and 11 year old Billy and his friend Karena headed to Perkiomen Creek to try their luck! This was Karena's first time fishing!

It took the both of them, but they landed a 10+ pound rainbow trout measuring 24 inches in length! This trout was just over 5 pounds shy of the state record!

Thanks to Billy and Karena, the Pennsylvania Trout Fishing Season started off with a bang! And so far, the kids aren't sharing their secrets on how they caught their trout!

Early Trout Season Opener in Pennsylvania

While the Pennsylvania trout season doesn't officially begin until April 14th, selected counties in the southeast portions of the state can begin trout fishing on Saturday (March 31st).

Eighteen counties have been given the go-ahead to begin the trout fishing season a couple of weeks ahead of of the rest of the state. Why? It's all part of a plan to increase trout fishing opportunities in the state's most popular area and improve stocking and management efforts.

This year, Pennsylvania trout fishing just got better! In addition to some folks getting to start the season early, the state has started stocking trout which are 30% larger than previous stockings!

Be sure to check the rules and regulations regarding the early trout season opener in Pennsylvania.

Trout Season Starts Early in Southeast Pennsylvania

Trout season will begin two weeks early this year for 18 counties in southeast Pennsylvania. Folks in these Pennsylvania counties can begin trout fishing on March 31st this year. The rest of the state will have to wait until April 14th.

In addition to this change, the Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission also plans to begin stocking larger trout statewide. They've also added sections of Plum and Halter creeks in Blair County to the list of Class A Wild Trout Waters and removed a section of Beaverdam Run, Somerset County from the Class A list.

All of these efforts are part of an ongoing effort to help provide a better trout fishing experience for Pennsylvania anglers.
